How Busy Moms Can Take Care of Themselves Through 'Mom Time'

As mothers, we are continually thinking of others. Helping children get ready for school, cleaning up spilled milk (and the other million things that spill a day), and chasing after little toddlers.

It’s overwhelming. Your own needs and personal health get pushed aside. ‘Mom time’ is something you only see other people get, but never yourself.

Amidst the chaos that is your life, we’re here to remind mamas - you need to take care of yourself as well. But, how do you fit Mom time into your schedule?

The beautiful Audrey Hepburn said it best, “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.”

Although your hands feel full at all moment, you can make mom time for yourself. We’ve put together 5 recommendations for quick ways to take care of yourself.

1. Make a list of things you enjoy doing

Think about the activities you enjoy doing, write them down, and schedule them into your calendar.

Sometimes all it takes is recognizing that you have your own hobbies and interests to take action. Take into consideration whether you prefer to be alone or have company at your side.

2. Find a reliable and trusted babysitter

A good babysitter is responsible and able to connect well with your children. If you’re on a tight budget, find a fellow mama that will swap with you.

A few hours away from your kids will recharge you, but you won’t be able to enjoy the time away unless you feel comfortable leaving your precious kids.

3. Set your alarm clock

It may seem counterintuitive to get less sleep than you already are, but even if you set your alarm for 10 minutes before the children usually wake up, that extra “Mom time” can dictate how the rest of your day goes.

A few moments to get yourself ready before the chaos begins will set the tone for your day. Seriously, it is amazing.

4. Get ready every day

We understand that some days even getting a shower in can feel like a feat, but try to make it a point.

You’ll instantly feel better once you get gussied up for the day, rather than living in sweatpants and a tattered shirt.

5. Create a Safe and Contained Place for Your Kiddos to Play

If you invest in creating a safe place for your child to play, it will be easier to have some peace of mind. There are plenty of options out there for setting up a play area.

As you schedule time for yourself, you will find that you’re able to take care of others. Set reminders and make it a priority so you can continue be the rock star mom that you already are!
