Creative Sandwich Ideas for Kids

The sandwich is usually a go-to for food a toddler will eat. But, even the sandwich may need a few creative adjustments to avoid a picky eater from turning up their nose.

If you skim Pinterest, there are a plethora of elaborate examples of creative sandwich ideas. They are cute and all, but not very realistic for time and ingredients you have available in your home.

Recently we have been creating cute sandwich sushi lunches for our little one. First, they are simple and second, our toddler eats them. Below we share a few of our simple creative sandwich ideas that have been a hit at our house.

Ham & Cheese Sandwich Sushi

We have kept this sandwich super simple: ham, cheese, and a little bit of butter on the bread. It is unique enough to pique our child’s taste buds and super simple for us to whip together.

Ham & Cheese Sandwich Sushi

Ingredients

  • 2 slices ham
  • 1 slice cheese
  • 1 piece bread
  • Butter

Instructions

  1. Cut off the bread crust. Roll out your bread with a rolling pin or just pound flat with your hands.
  2. Butter your bread.
  3. To one side, add the ham and cheese. Begin to roll the side with the meat and cheese until you have created a long sandwich roll.
  4. Cut into bite size pieces and serve.

Turkey & Avocado Sandwich Sushi

Sneaking a little green into a sandwich is always a good thing. The avocado gives the sandwich a unique look, but it is not overpowering. If your child despises avocado, you could try it with spinach.
